CONFESSIONS OF A SECURITY GUARD IN DISTRICT 1
I have a friend who works as a security guard for Long Hai Security Company. He is in charge of security in District 1. His company also provides a wide range of services to customers.
I am not an expert in the field, but I have come to understand his work through the times he handles business while having coffee with me.
He told me, "The security profession is very tough, kid. It's a job that society doesn't respect, yet danger is always lurking."
Once, he shared with me in a choked voice: "Every time I go back to my hometown, neighbors and relatives ask what I do. I tell them I'm a security guard. They show their contempt openly. I don't say anything more, but I feel very sad."
Listening to him, my heart felt heavy. I feel for those who sacrifice themselves daily to protect property, ensure people's safety, and maintain order in their assigned areas, yet few understand or empathize with such work.
I am not an insider, so I don't know the true nature of security work. However, whenever I call my friend before 12:00 PM, he never picks up.
I often ask, "Were you busy this morning or something? I call but you never answer." He replies, "I wasn't doing anything, I was sleeping!" His peak working hours fall between 11:00 PM and the early hours of the next morning.
Because the night is when hotspots like bars and nightclubs operate at full capacity—especially for security in District 1.
Most issues arise during that time, so he has to work his hardest. The night is also when "ill-intentioned" elements are most active. Consequently, it's very exhausting at night. He has to sleep in the morning to make up for the night's lost rest.
Providing security in District 1 is very complex. He once told me about a brawl in a bar. A young man, after drinking and dancing, started a fight with another customer.
The security guards had to intervene, and as a result, one was hit in the head with a beer bottle, causing bleeding.
He said it's exhausting, but sometimes very rewarding to see everyone happy and peaceful under his protection. Occasionally, while protecting "Important People," he learns interesting things from them.
Despite the hardships, there are joys, which is why he has been with the security profession for over 10 years and has no intention of quitting.
To him, the job is his destiny, and his colleagues are like brothers.
